When they were seated, the owner of the restaurant asked the President’s Secret Service if he could please speak to the First Lady in private. They obliged and Michelle had a conversation with the owner. Following this conversation President Obama asked Michelle, “Why was he so interested in talking to you?” She mentioned that in her teenage years, he had been madly in love with her. President Obama then said, “So if you had married him, you would now be the owner of this lovely restaurant,” to which Michelle responded, “No. If I had married him, he would now be the President.”

I think there was a small earthquake in/around my hood today. When I got home from work I found the following:

1. I have a ginormous-halfway-to-the-ceiling stack of empty boxes against the wall from purchasing Christmas gifts (and hair products) and not throwing them out yet. This pile was all over the goddamn place along with its myriad packing products. There is styrofoam everywhere.

‎2. The suctiony holder of shower stuff fell off the wall and into the tub despite the fact that it is mostly empty.

3. I opened the freezer and it rained Uncrustables onto my person.

My newest obsession is Justin Townes Earle. I read something about him and thought I’d give his music a go; 9 hours later I’ve been listening to him for 9 hours. He’s weirdly intriguing and super tall and I think I am in love with him.

Once I decided to heart him I started reading about him and watching interviews and what do I find out? He’s the son of Steve Earle (who I had not heard of but is good), and is named after Townes Van Zandt! In my own happy little music way this has completed a little circle as Townes Van Zandt is the singer/songwriter behind “If I Needed You,” my second favorite song on the Crazy Heart Soundtrack!

It would not be an exaggeration to say that I listen the the Crazy Heart soundtrack in its entirety 4 times a week and have been since I saw the movie. I’m not sure where this resurgence of love for country music has come from but I’m enjoying it immensely. Even when I actively liked country music I never liked stuff from the 60’s-80’s.

Color me surprised.

On Friday, the holy day for Islam, Christian protesters in Tahrir Square joined hands to form a protective cordon around their Muslim countrymen so they could pray in safety.

Sunday, the Muslims returned the favor.

They surrounded Christians celebrating Mass in Cairo’s central plaza, ground zero for the secular pro-democracy protests reverberating throughout the Middle East.

“In the name of Jesus and Muhammed, we unify our ranks,” the Rev. Ihab al-Kharat told the crowd in his sermon.

“We will keep protesting until the fall of the tyranny,” he said.

Some of the worshipers began to cry as the congregation sang, “Bless our country, listen to the cries of our hearts.”

Afterward, the crowd of both Muslims and Christians chanted “one hand” - meaning “we are one” - and held up a Koran and a cross.

At the risk of sounding as insane as I actually am, this made me tear up. I’ve been reading that it keeps happening as the weeks go by, but I haven’t read such a simple description of the actual acts.

While I’m not religious, I certainly hope that scenes like this will force people to realize that disagreements about faith do not have to be bloody or divisive.
